Private: Enhancing Collaboration to Improve Steel Building Project Efficiency

Course Information

This linear process obviously calls for a lot of data transmittal, interpretation and recast-ing in different formats — it’s a workflow derived from paper-based practices going back decades. And it’s become apparent that the process fails to capture the savings and efficiencies made possible by modern design practices based on 3-D models.

Author

Douglas G. Fitzpatrick, P.E.

Learning Objectives

  • How the typical steel building workflow hinders collaboration.
  • The benefits of model-based design with the model being used multiple times by different stakeholders.
  • How secure data management with version control alleviates concerns.
  • How the model-based design workflow improves efficiency and reduces liability.

Abstract

This Professional Development Section provides an opportunity to earn continuing-education credit without cost. Answers to the quiz will automatically be calculated. If eight or more of the questions are answered correctly, participants can immediately download a certificate of completion and be awarded 1.0 professional-development hours (equivalent to 0.1 continuing- education units in most states).

V1 Media is an approved provider of the American Institute of Architects’ Continuing Education System (AIA/CES, AIA provider no. 70118112). It is up to each licensee to determine if this credit meets their governing board’s registration requirements.
